### 補總持疏

> Commentary on the Complete Dharani

敬禮慈尊地藏王，神咒善能滅定業。普救無邊五濁苦，紹隆三寶種不斷。

> Homage to the Compassionate and Honored King Kshitigarbha, Whose sacred mantra can eradicate karmic obstructions. He universally saves all beings from the boundless suffering of the Five Turbidities, Sustaining the legacy of the Three Jewels, ensuring their lineage never ends.

智旭與法界眾生，迷本淨心，已造定業，無明所覆，不自覺知。故於今日，同嬰苦報，遠隔正法，遭遇魔邪，倒說大乘，誣毀了義。逐後世微勣，忘教主典型。設宣實道，反被譏訶。雖解真乘，仍虧智斷。歎同修之落落，嗟外護之冥冥。果豈他尤，因原自造。惟捫心內悔，悲仰求哀。恭念地藏大士，無上醫王，滅業真言，無邊神力，定能拔三障苦，施三德樂。是以專心持誦，速望冥加。向持三百二十萬、一百萬、四十八萬竟，今復為某等廣列比丘，沙彌，居士等，不錄各各有差，至心共持一百四十萬。伏願一切比丘，增長福慧，成就聖根，斷世愛網，摧我見山。一切沙彌，志慕大僧，克臻淨行，增修戒慧，棄捨幻緣，期許誓同先哲，舉止不類時流。一切檀護，明識是非，了達邪正。以願作眾生之眼，將身為佛法之城。又願各信淨土玄猷，共勗樂邦妙行。具諸戒品，讀誦大乘。深信因果，解第一義。常為人說法藏遠因、彌陀現果，令諸有情，咸脫苦輪，畢獲安樂。又願智旭與諸知識，互為主伴，恒轉法輪。誓滅三塗定業，妙暢安養真詮。恭干三寶聖尊，同體攝受。

> Zhi Xu and all beings throughout the Dharma Realm have lost sight of our inherently pure mind and created fixed karma. Covered by ignorance, we remain unaware of this. Therefore, today we all suffer the same painful retribution—cut off from the true Dharma, encountering demonic influences, misrepresenting the Great Vehicle, and slandering the ultimate teachings. We chase after minor worldly achievements while abandoning the example set by the Buddha. When true teachings are proclaimed, they are instead ridiculed and rejected. Although we may understand the true vehicle, we still lack wisdom and the power to cut off afflictions. We sigh at how few sincere fellow practitioners remain, and lament the darkness that blinds our supporters. The results are no one else's fault; the causes were self-made. Thus, we reflect with inner remorse, mournfully seek mercy, and reverently invoke Earth Store Bodhisattva, the Supreme King of Healing, and the true words that eradicate karma, which possess boundless spiritual power. They can surely remove the three hindrances of suffering and bestow the three kinds of virtuous bliss. Therefore, we wholeheartedly recite and swiftly hope for unseen assistance. Having previously completed recitations of three million two hundred thousand, one million, and four hundred eighty thousand times, we now again do so for these individuals<note place="inline">a broad list of monks, novices, laymen, etc. is not recorded</note> in varying amounts, with sincere minds reciting a total of one million four hundred thousand times together. We humbly pray that all monks may increase blessings and wisdom, perfect the roots of sagehood, break the net of worldly attachments, and shatter the mountain of self-grasping. May all novices aspire to become great monastics, achieve pure conduct, strengthen precepts and wisdom, abandon illusory conditions, match the vows of ancient sages, and conduct themselves unlike those of the present age. May all donors and supporters clearly distinguish right from wrong, and thoroughly understand truth from falsehood. May they become the eyes of sentient beings, and make their bodies into cities for the Dharma. We also pray that each one may believe in the profound path of the Pure Land, and encourage one another in the wondrous practices of the Land of Bliss. Uphold all precepts, recite and study the Great Vehicle. Deeply believe in cause and effect, and understand the ultimate truth. Always explain for others the distant causes of the Dharma Treasury (Dharmakara) and the present results of Amitabha, so that all sentient beings may escape the cycle of suffering and attain peace and happiness. Finally, we pray that Zhi Xu and all spiritual friends may mutually serve as principal and supporting guides, forever turning the wheel of the Dharma. Vow to destroy the fixed karma of the three evil realms, and perfectly proclaim the true meaning of the Land of Peace and Nourishment. We respectfully beseech the sacred beings of the Three Jewels to embrace us as one body.
