> Zhi Xu, and all beings, deluded by their own nature, perpetually create karmic conditions, obscuring the enlightened essence. They fail to understand the cause of phenomena, causing a fierce separation between subject and object, and creating barriers between self and other. They sink into the Six Realms, languish in the Three Evil Paths, and even when they rarely obtain a human body, they still face various obstacles. Even when they turn to the true teachings, they fail to recognize the wondrous path—all because of their heavy karma, leading to this hardship. Reflecting further: the root of birth and death is love and attachment, which lies dormant in the storehouse consciousness and is difficult to sever or eliminate. Although I have secretly received the support of the Great Being and the Three Jewels, and have never been shameless or defiled in this life, my beginningless evil habits constantly rise with my thoughts: my body craves sensory contact, my mouth delights in harmful speech—the three actions and six senses are truly guilty beyond measure. If I myself am not pure, how can I guide others? Grasping my wrist in reflection, I feel truly ashamed. Now, in the setting of the Great Compassion Pure Altar, I daily recite one scroll of the \*Brahma Net Sutra\*, cultivate the forty-eight vows, recite the name of Amitabha Buddha one thousand times, and chant one scroll of the \*Golden Light Sutra's Chapter on Emptiness\*. Additionally, I hold the Great Compassion Mantra ten thousand times and the Buddha's Crown Mantra a thousand times as means to cut off delusions, and I dedicate these practices to certain past and present beings individually. On the day of building the altar, I burnt five incense sticks on the crown of my head; today, on the completion day, I burn twenty-one incense sticks on my arm as an offering to Vairocana Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, the Thousand-Light King Buddha of Still Abiding, the Buddhas of the ninety-nine billion Ganges-like sands, the Buddha of Right Dharma Illumination, and all Buddhas of the ten directions and three times. I make offerings to the \*Brahma Net Sutra's Bodhisattva Mind Ground Chapter\*, the \*Mahaparinirvana Sutra\*, the Great Compassion Dharani, the \*Sitatapatra Ushnisha Dharani\*, the True Words for Eliminating Fixed Karma, and all teachings of exoteric and esoteric traditions. I make offerings to Guanyin Bodhisattva, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, the Sovereign of All Dharanis Bodhisattva, Sunlight Bodhisattva, Moonlight Bodhisattva, Jewel King Bodhisattva, Medicine King Bodhisattva, Medicine Superior Bodhisattva, Avatamsaka Bodhisattva, Great Adornment Bodhisattva, Jewel Treasury Bodhisattva, Virtue Treasury Bodhisattva, Vajragarbha Bodhisattva, Akashagarbha Bodhisattva, Maitreya Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, Manjushri Bodhisattva, and all Bodhisattvas of the ten directions and three times. I make offerings to Mahakashyapa, Upali, Ananda, and all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, the noble and holy Sangha. I make offerings to the first teachers to arrive in China, Kasyapa Matanga and Dharmaratna, the first to journey to the West, the venerable Faxian, the founder of the Pure Land school, the venerable Huiyuan, the seeker of relics, the venerable Kang Senghui, the first patriarch of Chan, the venerable Bodhidharma, the Tiantai master, the wise Zhiyi, the Faxiang master, the venerable Xuanzang, the National Teacher Chengguan of Qingliang, the master Yongming, who unified doctrines in the \*Mirror of the Source\*, and the master Daguan, who revived the monastic spirit, as well as the master Yunqi, to whom I was privately connected in precepts, and the ancestral master Hanshan, who appeared in a dream to guide me—to all these, the Three Jewels, teachers, and Sangha, after making offerings, I prostrate and open my heart, making this declaration: May my three actions be ultimately pure: my body never committing the slightest fault, my mouth free from all frivolity, and my mind forever free from attachment and wrong views. May my parents and all beginningless parents, together with all beings, be reborn in the Pure Land. May my fellow monastics <note place="inline">nine people</note>, generate profound compassionate vows and don the armor of perseverance. May the lay protectors, certain Bhikshus <note place="inline">eight named</note>, deeply cherish the true Dharma and graciously support the Sangha. May a certain rejoicing Bhikshu perfect endurance and secretly uphold the Dharma-gate. May certain people <note place="inline">three named</note>, severely reform the current malpractice and aggressively pursue ancient practices. May my monastic ally, a certain Bhikshu, cultivate equal great compassion and compassionately regard the obstinate and evil. May a certain person deeply open the eye of doctrine and thoroughly master the Vinaya. May a certain person perfect illuminating wisdom and broadly penetrate the true principle. May certain people <note place="inline">seven named</note>, completely eliminate habits and deeply enter the Dharma-gate. May a certain person earnestly contemplate impermanence, deeply contemplate the means of escape, forever eliminate flattery and deception, and perfect the true cause. May the lay protectors, novices, and practitioners <note place="inline">ten named</note>, perfect deep causes and earnestly seek true results. May certain people <note place="inline">nine named</note>, diligently seek the essential path and resolutely aspire to the Lotus Land. May certain people <note place="inline">eight named</note>, cultivate the three learnings simultaneously and equally perfect the two adornments. May the precept-breakers and icchantikas <note place="inline">four names given</note>, awaken through conditions, immediately rectify their wrong minds, deeply believe in cause and effect, and quickly seek the elimination of their offenses. May the donor protector, a certain person, through perfect and penetrating wisdom, cultivate blessings that accord with the nature. May certain people <note place="inline">sixteen named</note>, accomplish the transcendental Dharma and escape the bondage of love and attachment. May the deceased Bhikshus <note place="inline">eleven people</note>, novices <note place="inline">six named</note>, and layman, all be freed from the dark paths and directly return to the Land of Bliss. May the deceased Pure Land female lay practitioner Lu Zhifu, be reborn on the highest lotus seat, receive the assurance of Buddhahood in one lifetime, and through the power of如意 (unimpeded) spiritual powers, extensively liberate sentient beings. These merits of burning incense and making vows are to repay the kindness of the Buddha above and to rescue the world of turbidity below. I vow: May all upholders of the precepts thoroughly understand the sources of permissibility, prohibition, upholding, and violation, deeply realize the precepts inherent in meditative concentration and the Path, never use accumulated errors for selfish gain, never use corrupt habits to destroy the Dharma, always fill the Buddha's seat, and be not like sheep following the herd. May all preachers of doctrine cultivate both understanding and practice, equally emphasize doctrine and contemplation, be meticulous in precept observance, master meditative reflection, unlike those counting others' treasures or describing food without eating, but skillfully attain realization through the scriptures. May all practitioners of Chan clearly recognize what is right and wrong, distinguish the true and false, not fall into the pit of darkened realization, not give rise to arrogance, practice true investigation and realization, and have faith in precepts and learning. May all cultivators of the Pure Land path have faith in the reality of phenomena, realize the Buddha-mind inherent within, neither reject forms to speak loftily of self-nature nor regard them lightly as a form of retirement, but don the armor of the Bodhisattva vow, harmonizing with the Dharma-Treasury's wheel of vows. May all practitioners of Yoga deeply penetrate the complete teachings of exoteric and esoteric traditions, purify the three spheres of bestowing and transforming, eliminate frivolous habits, guard the ceremonial precepts, not teach frivolously, not hold ceremonies lightly, and receive the compassion of all Buddhas, while avoiding the anger and punishment of spirits and ghosts. May all those performing meritorious works deeply believe in offenses and blessings, strictly maintain cause and effect, distance themselves from worldly matters, promote true teachings, and turn karmic deeds toward the undefiled vehicle. Furthermore, I vow that all previous vows will be dedicated to purifying the Pure Land and directed solely toward the West. At the time of death, may I have no other thoughts, and personally behold the compassionate Lord, received by the holy assembly, instantly transformed into a lotus, swiftly hearing the wondrous Dharma, immediately realizing non-arising, perfecting the ten types of body-wheels, and extensively liberating sentient beings in the Dharmarealm. May the Great Being Guanyin and the compassionate Ksitigarbha, mercifully shield and protect me, so that my vows never recede, never drown, never be lost or forgotten, and perfect the Bodhisattva path.
