3. Biography of Taiqing, Nun of Yidu Purple Bamboo Nunnery

Taiqing, a native of Yidu, renounced worldly life to study the Way and deeply grasped its profound principles. She resided at the Purple Bamboo Hermitage, where day and night she chanted scriptures, making this her daily practice.

The hermitage was situated beside a stream. One day, the stream suddenly swelled with a flash flood. Taiqing laughed heartily, tossed her meditation cushion into the water, sat cross-legged upon it, and began chanting the "Universal Gate Chapter." She then drifted with the current, passing through the Changyang River and out into the great Yangtze, disappearing from sight. No one knew where she went.

Because of this, the stream came to be known as the Shigu Xi, the Stream of the Nun Master.
