Fourth: Biography of Nun Huashou of a Certain Nunnery in Gaoyou
Hua Shou, in the second year of the Liang dynasty's Putong era, resided in a nunnery in Gaoyou, her resolve pure as ice and frost. Day and night, she ceaselessly recited the Wonderful Dharma Lotus Sutra, mastering the first volume with ease. On the fingernail of her right hand, a flower bloomed, shaped like a water chestnut. As she recited the next four volumes, flowers appeared on the nails of all five fingers. When she proceeded to recite the sixth and seventh volumes, two more flowers emerged in the palm of her hand, larger than the previous ones. Thus, throughout the region, she became known as the Nun with Flowers on Her Hands. Her practice was not marked by extreme austerity, yet Emperor Wu of the Chen dynasty summoned her to witness this marvel, expressing great admiration. Her later fate remains unknown.
