> Biography of Nun Wuliang of Daode Temple in Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty

> Wuliang was a woman from the Min family in Chang'an. At the age of eighteen, she was already able to recite the Avatamsaka Sutra. In the second year of the Yongchun era, an imperial decree was issued to ordain monks and nuns. Five members of her family, both men and women, passed the sutra recitation examination and were ordained. Wuliang was assigned to reside at the Daode Temple. Her resolve and discipline grew ever firmer. She made it her regular practice to recite the entire Avatamsaka Sutra once every three days. She also maintained the six periods of daily worship and repentance, never neglecting the purification of body, speech, and mind. Whenever she encountered the poor or the sick, she would feel deep compassion and provide them with medicine and care, supporting them in their hardship. People of her time praised her as a woman of remarkable strength and virtue.
