The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Fazhuang Yuan, compiled by disciples including Tonghui with a preface by Hongyuan, is a collection of teachings from the eminent Qing dynasty Linji Chan master Zhiyuan. Completed in the early Qing period, this work reflects the transmission and development of Chan Buddhism in China at that time. Its contents include Master Zhiyuan's discourses, Dharma talks, pointed dialogues, and poetic verses, collectively embodying his Chan teachings, which emphasize realizing one's true nature and directly pointing to the mind. As an important Chan text from the Qing dynasty, this recorded sayings serves as a significant source for studying the style of the Linji school and early Qing Buddhist thought, offering considerable academic and practical value for understanding Chan history and practice.
