The Buddhist monk and scholar Shanwuwei (善無畏) and Yixing (一行) were prominent figures during the Tang Dynasty. Shanwuwei was a principal translator of tantric texts, while Yixing was instrumental in applying Indian astronomy to the Chinese calendar system.
