The monk and scholar Vasubandhu (婆素跋陀) was a prominent figure in the Gupta Empire period of India, active in the 4th-5th centuries CE. He is renowned for his extensive philosophical works, particularly his commentaries on Abhidharma, and for his authorship of the *Abhidharmakośa*.
