Zongmi (780–841) was a prominent Chinese Buddhist monk and scholar of the Tang Dynasty. He authored the influential work *Classic of the Dao and its Spiritual Power*, also known as the *Ch'an Introduction to the Fundamental Mystery of the Dao and its Spiritual Power*, which synthesizes Chan (Zen) Buddhism with Daoist concepts.
