Zongmi, a prominent Chan (Zen) Buddhist monk and scholar of the Tang Dynasty, authored the influential treatise *Yuanjue jing suyi* (Commentary on the Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment). Yuanzhao was a Song Dynasty monk who provided a significant commentary on Zongmi's work.
