Vasubandhu, active in the 4th-5th century Gupta Empire, was a highly influential Mahayana scholar and Buddhist monk. He is renowned for his authorship of the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya (Treasury of Higher Knowledge) and his extensive commentaries on various Mahayana sutras.
