Hongren (601–674) was a prominent Chan (Zen) Buddhist monk of the Tang Dynasty, considered the Fifth Patriarch of Chan Buddhism. He is known for his teachings and for his successor, Huineng, who became the Sixth Patriarch, but he is not primarily noted for translating or authoring specific scriptures.
