Zhi Xu (1599–1655), a prominent Buddhist monk of the Ming Dynasty, authored extensive commentaries on various Buddhist texts, most notably his comprehensive annotations on the *Avatamsaka Sutra*. Dao Fang (1651–1724), a scholar of the subsequent Qing Dynasty, edited and revised many of Zhi Xu's works, ensuring their accurate dissemination.
