Zhiyi (538-597 CE) was a highly influential Chinese Buddhist monk and founder of the Tiantai school. He authored the influential commentary *Fahua Xuanyi* (Profound Meaning of the Lotus Sutra) and the *Fahua Wenju* (Explication of the Lotus Sutra).
