Saicho (767–822), also known as Dengyo Daishi, was a Japanese Tendai monk who studied in Tang China under masters like Daosui. He is credited with bringing the complete Lotus Sutra commentaries of Zhiyi to Japan and establishing the influential Tendai school there.
