The monk Daoxuan (Sui-Tang dynasties) authored the influential *Shíjiè lǜ* (十戒律), a commentary on monastic precepts. The scholar Yuanzhao (Song dynasty) further expounded on these rules, and the Japanese monk Zenno (Kamakura period) compiled and synthesized these teachings.
