### 與即墨父老

離合之情。悲喜自昔。去來之想。夢寐為勞。蓋心苦於知己。念切於有緣。在古聖賢猶然。況恒品乎。聞之一飲一󲣅。皆屬前緣。一貴一賤。交情乃見。若山野之於諸君子。一紀之歡。不減骨肉之愛。萬里之遣。重遺手足之憂。其不稱千載之知己。多生之有緣乎。諺語云。得一世之榮。不若得一世之名。即山野之於山海。固不能流芳。適足以貽笑。不知兒童稱說。父子相傳於幾百年也。況復布慈雲於邊地。明佛日於重昏。開性海之原。轉文機之軸。下成佛之種子。孕作聖之胚胎。山野心知此段公案。深信上天之載。自有無聲無臭者存焉。又何以論空華凋謝。瞖眼較得失乎。苟知去彼取此。則諸君子可稱出世知己矣。

> The feelings of parting and reunion, joy and sorrow, have existed since ancient times. Thoughts of coming and going weary us even in our dreams. For the heart suffers in seeking a true friend, and the mind aches for those bound by fate. Even the ancient sages felt this way, let alone ordinary people. It is said that every shared meal and drink is due to past connections, and true friendship is revealed in times of honor and disgrace. For me, the joy of twelve years with you gentlemen was no less than the love between family. Being sent away a thousand miles feels like being separated from my own brothers. How could I not call you friends for a thousand lifetimes, bound by many lives of fate? As the proverb goes, "Better to gain a good name for a lifetime than fleeting glory." As for me, I may not leave a lasting fragrance in the world, but perhaps enough to bring a smile. Little do we know that children may speak of us, and fathers pass down our stories for hundreds of years. Moreover, you spread compassion like clouds over distant lands, brighten the sun of wisdom in deep darkness, open the source of our true nature, turn the wheel of culture, plant seeds for future enlightenment, and nurture the embryo of sainthood. Deep in my heart, I know this truth: I firmly believe that in the workings of heaven, there exists what is silent and unseen. Why then argue over the fading of illusory flowers, or compare gains and losses through clouded eyes? If we understand letting go of that and holding to this, then you, my friends, may truly be called spiritual companions for this life and beyond.
