> The price of rice in Luling is beyond measure. Yet the fortunate conditions for the Pure Land have already been deeply planted. Having feasted on the joy of meditation, I shall not fail the trust of the mendicant's alms bowl. After parting, I arrived at the garrison post—a place of miasmic mists, and again encountered famine. Only this realm of suffering meets the eye, piercing the heart with sorrow, aching to the very marrow. I wish every pore of my body could be like the sky, flowing forth with the four necessities for benefiting beings. This truly serves as an enhancing condition for my path to enlightenment. You have entrusted me with the Lankavatara Sutra. Once this illusory body finds its place and worldly toils are briefly stilled, I will delve into its depths with utmost care, and certainly not betray the karmic bond of your commission.

又。

> Again.

> The monk Qianfeng from the north has already entrusted me with his regards, along with his notes on the Lankavatara Sutra, which I now present to you for your validation. It seems that the Dharma connections are destined, and events unfold as if they were meant to be. This sutra has been in China for over a thousand years, having passed through three translations. Throughout history, many masters who propagated the Dharma, such as Qingliang and Guifeng, have produced countless commentaries and annotations. Yet, none have touched upon this. As a result, the mind-seal of Bodhidharma has remained obscure and unilluminated until today, when you, Venerable One, brought it forth. With a single phrase, you pierced through the torrent, placing it into the hands of this dull-witted mountain dweller to turn over and examine. This is truly no small karmic connection. Could it be that you and I share the same vow made at Vulture Peak, to proclaim this Dharma in order to remedy the shortcomings of this degenerate age? Otherwise, how could such an inconceivable event occur? I do not know the ultimate truth of the matter, but once this great treasure is fully revealed, its light will illuminate both humans and gods—this surely must be the work of divine power. I humbly ask you to point out any flaws, as if seizing the jade of Qin. This lies in your courageous and steadfast hands.
