The *Huayan Compendium* is an authoritative commentary on the *Avataṃsaka Sūtra* by the Tang Dynasty master Chengguan, with its essential principles distilled by the Ming Dynasty eminent monk Deqing (Master Hanshan). Composed during the zenith of the Huayan school of Chinese Buddhism, this work systematically elucidates the core doctrines of the *Avataṃsaka Sūtra*, such as the Ten Profound Gates and the Perfect Harmony of the Six Characteristics, revealing the ultimate realm of the unimpeded interpenetration of all phenomena and the dependent arising of the dharma-realm. As one of the fundamental treatises of the Huayan school, it integrates Chengguan's profound and extensive exegesis with Deqing's concise refinement. It is a crucial text for the study of Huayan thought, having profoundly influenced the construction of the philosophical system of East Asian Buddhism, and is honored as a vital exposition of the "King of Sūtras."
