Shakyamuni Praises Dharma Gate
今日道場同業大眾！《賢護經》云：「假使有人以七寶滿十方微塵數三千大千世界以用布施，復以衣服飲食四事供養一切眾生，皆令得至阿羅漢果。其福多不？」賢護白言：「世尊！其福甚多。」佛告賢護：「不如有人勸令稱念一聲阿彌陀佛功德，即過於彼。」勸他既爾，何況自念。一聲尚爾，何況多耶。
Fellow practitioners gathered here today in this Dharma hall, The *Sutra of Resolute Guardianship* says:
"Suppose someone were to fill the worlds as numerous as the dust motes in ten directions with the seven precious treasures and give them all as alms. Furthermore, suppose they offered clothing, food, bedding, and medicine to all sentient beings, helping every one attain the fruition of an Arhat. Would their merit be great or not?"
The Resolute Guardian replied: "World-Honored One, their merit would be immense."
The Buddha then told the Resolute Guardian: "This merit is not as great as the merit of urging someone to recite the name of Amitabha Buddha just once. The latter surpasses the former entirely."
If urging others to recite even once brings such merit, how much more so when we recite ourselves? And if a single recitation carries such power, how much greater the merit of reciting many times?
又《陀羅尼集經》云：「若四部眾將持七寶滿世界中布施十方一切諸佛，不如有人以一錢一香一華好心供養阿彌陀佛。作此功德者，一切諸佛及諸菩薩金剛天等皆悉歡喜，死生阿彌陀佛國。若人然燈供養阿彌陀佛，命終生彼佛國，即得天眼，徹見十方一切世界。」
The *Dhāraṇī Collection Sūtra* says: "If a member of the fourfold assembly gives away all the seven treasures in the world as an offering to every Buddha in the ten directions, it is not as good as someone who, with a sincere heart, offers a single coin, a single stick of incense, or a single flower to Amitābha Buddha. Those who perform this merit will be rejoiced by all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Heavenly Kings, and other deities, and after death, they will be reborn in Amitābha’s Pure Land. If a person lights a lamp as an offering to Amitābha Buddha, at the end of their life they will be reborn in that Buddha’s land, and there they will obtain the heavenly eye, able to see clearly all worlds in the ten directions."
《陀羅尼集經》云：「若轉輪王十萬歲中滿四天下七寶布施十方諸佛，不如有人一彈指頃坐禪，以平等心憐愍一切眾生，念阿彌陀佛功德，死生彼國。」
The Sutra of Dharani Collections says:
"If a universal monarch, over a hundred thousand years, were to fill the entire world with seven kinds of precious treasures and offer them as gifts to all the Buddhas in the ten directions, this would not match the merit of someone who, for just a finger-snap’s moment, sits in meditation, with an equal mind, feeling compassion for all beings, and recites the name of Amitabha Buddha, focusing on his virtues. Such a person, at death, will be reborn in that Pure Land."
《救阿難焰口陀羅尼經》云：「諸佛子等！若聞阿彌陀如來名號，能令汝等往生西方極樂淨土，蓮華化生，得不退地。」
《藥師經》云：「若淨信男女有能受持八方齋戒，或經一年、或經三月。以此善根，願生西方極樂世界，有未定者。若能聞我藥師瑠璃光如來名號，臨命終時，有八菩薩乘神通來示其道路，即於西方極樂世界寶蓮華中自然化生。」
The Healing Buddha Sutra says: "If sincere men and women are able to uphold the Eight Precepts for a full year, or for three months, and through this virtue they wish to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, yet their destiny remains uncertain—if they hear the name of me, the Medicine Master Lapis Lazuli Light Tathagata, then at the moment of death, eight Bodhisattvas will appear, riding on their spiritual powers, to show them the way. In that instant, they will be spontaneously born from a precious lotus flower in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss."
今日道場同業大眾！相與志心，五體投地，歸依世間大慈悲父。
各位法友、同修們，讓我們一同以至誠之心，五體投地，皈依世間最慈悲的覺悟者。
