### 四〇、宋平江西竺寺尼法海傳

> Biography of Dharma Sea, Nun of Jiangxi Zhusi Temple in the Song Dynasty

法海，寶文呂嘉之姑也。根性極利，樂修禪定。首參法雲法秀和尚，後至襄州石門，領旨於法真言下。既得法已，隱平江西竺寺，抱道自晦，涵養聖胎。諸名儒屢挽應世，堅不從。故其一生言行，未能盛顯。臨終說偈曰：「霜天雲霧結，山月冷涵輝。夜接故鄉信，曉行人不知。」屆明，坐脫。

> Fahai was the aunt of Bao Wen Lü Jia. Her spiritual roots were exceptionally sharp, and she delighted in cultivating meditative concentration. She first studied under the monk Fayun Faxiu, then went to the Stone Gate in Xiangzhou, where she grasped the essential teaching under Fazhen. After attaining the Dharma, she secluded herself at Pingjiang's Xizhu Temple, embracing the Way in obscurity and nurturing the sacred embryo. Many renowned Confucian scholars repeatedly urged her to engage with the world, but she steadfastly refused. Therefore, her words and deeds throughout her life were not widely known. At the end of her life, she spoke a verse: "Frosty sky, clouds and mist gather; the mountain moon, cold, holds its glow. At night, a letter from the old home arrives; at dawn, one sets off, unknown to others." At daybreak, she passed away sitting upright.
