### 四一、宋建寧福國庵尼覺庵傳

> 41\. Biography of Nun Jue'an of Fuguo Nunnery in Jianning, Song Dynasty

覺庵，建寧游蔡院侄女。志不出適，願削髮為尼，留心祖道。時禪風大盛，宗匠傑出，有圓悟禪師者，屢遷大剎，湖海浩歸。因往參之，於示眾語下忽爾契入，詣方丈白所得。悟曰：「更須颺卻所見，始得自由。」庵答偈曰：「露柱抽橫骨，虛空弄爪牙。直饒玄會得，猶是眼中沙。」後回建寧，住福國庵。善於化誘，眾所歸信。

> Jue'an was the niece of the Imperial Academy scholar You Cai from Jianning. She had no desire to marry and wished to shave her head to become a nun, devoting her heart to the ancestral teachings. At that time, Zen Buddhism was flourishing greatly, and eminent masters were emerging. Among them was the Chan master Yuanwu, who had served as abbot at many major monasteries, drawing followers from far and wide. She went to visit him and, while listening to his public teaching, suddenly experienced a profound awakening. She then went to the abbot’s quarters to report her realization. Yuanwu said, “You must still let go of what you have seen in order to attain true freedom.” Jue'an replied with a verse: > The pillar draws out its crosswise bone, > Emptiness plays with claws and fangs. > Even if one truly comprehends this, > It is still but sand in the eye. Later, she returned to Jianning and resided at Fuguo Nunnery. She was skilled in guiding others, and many gathered around her with faith.
