> Fifty-Seven: The Story of Nun Nengfeng of a Certain Nunnery in Qiantang during the Song Dynasty

能奉，錢塘人。嘗從大德聽講彌陀經，聞知西方種種勝妙，但能深信發願，持名不輟，即可往生。於是專修淨業，不習餘乘，行之數十年，工夫綿密。時獲感應，常見佛光照身，清涼自在。一日，無疾，告其徒曰：「吾往生時至。」少頃，眾聞誦佛聲厲，往視之，已合掌面西坐逝矣。異香滿室，有樂聲隱隱西去。

> Neng Feng was a native of Qiantang. He once attended a lecture on the Amitabha Sutra given by a great monk, where he learned about the various supreme wonders of the Western Pure Land. He came to deeply believe that by sincerely making the vow and reciting the Buddha's name without interruption, one could be reborn there. From then on, he dedicated himself solely to Pure Land practice, not studying other paths. He maintained this practice for decades, with continuous and diligent effort. From time to time, he received spiritual responses, often seeing the light of the Buddha illuminating his body, bringing him a sense of coolness and ease. One day, without any illness, he told his disciples, "My time to be reborn in the Pure Land has come." Shortly after, the assembly heard his recitation of the Buddha's name grow intense. When they went to look, they found him already seated facing west, with palms joined, having passed away. A wondrous fragrance filled the room, and the faint sound of music could be heard fading away toward the west.
