### 五八、宋明州楊氏庵尼慧安傳

> Biography of Nun Huian of the Yang Family Nunnery in Mingzhou, Song Dynasty

慧安，明州人，住小溪楊氏庵。初誦金剛經，寒暑不輟。後棲心淨土，室中供彌陀、觀音、勢至三聖，香花旛蓋，莊嚴隆重。禮拜供養，意極誠懇，誓畢此形骸，脫離娑婆，往生極樂。持戒等護浮囊，小心翼翼，口不妄言，行不亂步，內外調柔，如入三昧，常於室中見佛光下燭。一日示疾，端坐戒眾勿諠。移時曰：「佛至矣！」令眾唱佛名，倏然脫去，年九十六。

> Hui'an, a native of Mingzhou, lived in the Yang Family Hermitage at Xiaoxi. Initially, he recited the Diamond Sutra tirelessly, regardless of cold or heat. Later, he dedicated his heart to the Pure Land practice. In his room, he enshrined the three holy figures: Amitabha, Guanyin, and Mahasthamaprapta, adorned with incense, flowers, banners, and canopies, creating an atmosphere of solemn reverence. His worship and offerings were performed with utmost sincerity, vowing that in this very lifetime he would leave this world of suffering and be reborn in the Land of Ultimate Bliss. He upheld the precepts as carefully as protecting a floating life-saving bag, with great caution. He did not speak carelessly, nor did he act recklessly; his inner and outer being were harmonized and gentle, as if he were in deep meditation. He often saw the Buddha's light shining down in his room. One day, he fell ill. Sitting upright, he instructed the assembly not to make noise. After a while, he said, "The Buddha has arrived!" He asked everyone to chant the Buddha's name, and in an instant, he passed away peacefully at the age of ninety-six.
