> Changjing was a woman from the commoner family of Li Dong in Shaxian County, originally surnamed Xu. She was raised by a wealthy family. During the Hongwu era, when the master of the household passed away, he entrusted his orphaned child to her care. Changjing raised the child to adulthood, returned all the inherited property, and begged to become a nun. Her practice of the precepts was pure and earnest; through reciting mantras, she could connect with unseen realms and discern the fortunes and misfortunes of others. One day, when bandits were about to arrive, Changjing instructed her attendants to prepare a certain number of vegetarian offerings. Shortly after, the bandits arrived, and the offerings happened to match their exact number. They looked at one another in shock, dared not commit any offense, and departed. From then on, her virtue and wisdom became even more renowned. All the virtuous women who studied Buddhism gathered around her seat, taking refuge and seeking the essential teachings of the Dharma. It was as if they had entered a mountain of treasures, each returning home with their own full load. Changjing maintained a life of purity and poverty, upholding frugality and rejecting extravagance. She took the lead in all communal duties, never considering them a burden. All her disciples strictly followed her teachings and admonitions, not daring to be negligent or idle. At the age of ninety, she finally passed away in seated meditation.
