### 七五、明安東吉祥庵尼寂性傳

> Seventy-Five: Biography of Nun Jixing of Andong Jixiang Temple

寂性，鹽城劉姓女。少為尼，得遇名師指點，悟心要法。以遊戲神通，化行諸方。嘗乞食安東市，不舍風雨，或祁寒浴於河。人初以為狂，無食之者。常握瓦礫，遇事卜之，逆知吉凶。所到之家，可入乃入，人遂敬而信之，得以一入門為幸，舉市呼曰「老佛」。有以開示請者，出言似甚平泛，味之有至理。後坐化吉祥庵。世傳其偈云：「奉勸學道人，學道要認真。如若心不切，苦海永沉淪。」又云：「大地浩無邊，眾生多難數。幾個聰明人，跳出輪迴苦？」

> Jixing, a woman of the Liu family from Yancheng. In her youth, she became a nun and encountered a renowned teacher who guided her, awakening her to the essential Dharma. Through playful spiritual powers, she traveled and transformed wherever she went. Once, while begging for alms in the market of Andong, she did not avoid wind or rain, and in the bitter cold, she bathed in the river. At first, people thought her mad, and no one gave her food. She often held pebbles and, when encountering events, would divine with them, foretelling fortune or misfortune. When she arrived at a household, she would only enter if it was appropriate, and people came to respect and trust her, considering it fortunate if she entered their home. The entire market called her "Old Buddha." When asked for teachings, her words seemed plain and ordinary, yet upon reflection, they held profound truth. Later, she passed away in seated meditation at Jixiang Temple. A verse attributed to her is passed down: "I urge those who seek the Way, to seek it with true sincerity. If the heart is not earnest, you will forever sink in the sea of suffering." Another verse says: "The vast earth stretches without end, living beings are countless and troubled. How many wise ones are there, who leap beyond the suffering of samsara?"
