### 八一、明永明迴龍庵尼慧秀傳

> Eighty-One: Biography of Nun Huixiu of Yongming Huilong Nunnery

慧秀，姓余氏，其夫江西奉縣人，家於永明，業陶。夫喪，遂茹素修行，日誦觀音大士千遍。既懇求地主丈尺地，立迴龍庵奉佛。晝勤紡績，夜龕坐念佛。所居地無泉，慧秀以杖叩地，忽石邊鏗然有聲，命弟子開之，有泉湧出，味殊甘美，遂成流澗，能蔭數百畝，四時不涸。邑人以為苦修之驗，爭向慕供養之。慧秀生於弘治甲午，距萬曆甲戌，壽百歲有奇。

> Huixiu, whose maiden name was Yu, was from Yongming. Her husband, a native of Feng County in Jiangxi, worked as a potter. After his passing, she adopted a vegetarian diet and dedicated herself to spiritual practice, reciting the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva a thousand times each day. She earnestly requested a small plot of land from the local landowner and established the Huilong Temple to honor the Buddha. By day, she diligently spun and wove; by night, she sat in meditation, chanting the Buddha’s name. The area where she lived had no spring. One day, Huixiu tapped the ground with her staff, and suddenly a clear, ringing sound came from beside a rock. She instructed her disciples to dig there, and a spring gushed forth—its water exceptionally sweet and pure. It soon formed a flowing stream, nourishing hundreds of acres of land and never running dry through the seasons. The local people saw this as a testament to her devoted practice and vied to support and make offerings to her. Huixiu was born in the Jiawu year of the Hongzhi era and lived until the Jiaxu year of the Wanli era, reaching an age of over a hundred years.
