### 五二、宋溫州淨居寺尼法燈傳

> Biography of Nun Fadeng of Jingju Temple in Wenzhou, Song Dynasty

法燈，字無相，自幼出家，參究禪旨。有尼慧溫禪師，住溫州淨居寺，為當時大善知識。燈往侍座下，隨眾請益。一日，忽然大悟，以呈慧溫，溫為印證，後繼其法席。上堂，拈拄杖曰：「觀音出，普賢入，文殊水上穿靴立。擡頭鷂子過新羅，石火電光追不及。咄！」

> Fadeng, whose Dharma name was Wuxiang, left home to become a monk from a young age and dedicated himself to investigating the essence of Chan. There was a nun, Chan Master Huiwen, who resided at Jingju Temple in Wenzhou and was a great enlightened teacher of the time. Fadeng went to serve under her, following the assembly in seeking guidance. One day, he suddenly experienced a great awakening and presented his realization to Huiwen, who confirmed it. Later, he succeeded her Dharma seat. When ascending the teaching hall, he lifted his staff and said: "Guanyin emerges, Samantabhadra enters, Manjushri stands on water wearing boots. Look up—a hawk crosses over Silla, Swift as flint-spark or lightning, impossible to catch. Doh!"
