### 六二、宋仙居淨勝院尼了證傳

> Chapter 62: Biography of Nun Liaozheng of Jingsheng Monastery in Xianju, Song Dynasty

了證，仙居夏氏女。幼遇相士，謂其父曰：「公女丰骨幽異，殆苾芻草也。若結朱陳，旦夕不祿矣。」因命之皈教於淨勝院，學習大乘，了悟心宗。為人解說經旨，妙義泉湧，滔滔不絕。其教人學佛，不可好高務遠，必須腳踏實地，驀直行去，日久自見功效。比親死，哀毀骨立，築庵塚旁，居守以終其身。弟子依戀不捨，躡跡追隨，庵小不能容眾，有餐風飲露而侍從者。檀信熏其法化，共捨淨貲，增廣屋宇。由是唄聲梵韻，晝夜不斷。後自知時至，趺坐而化。

> Liaozheng was a woman of the Xia family from Xianju. When she was young, a fortune-teller told her father, "Your daughter has an extraordinary and serene bone structure—she is truly destined for the monastic life. If she were to marry, she would not live long." Thus, she was instructed to take refuge in the teachings at Jingsheng Monastery, where she studied the Mahayana tradition and thoroughly awakened to the essence of mind. When explaining the meaning of the scriptures to others, profound insights flowed from her like a spring, endlessly and eloquently. She taught people that in learning Buddhism, one should not aim too high or chase after distant goals, but must proceed with steady, grounded steps, walking the path straightforwardly. Over time, the results would naturally become evident. When her parents passed away, she grieved so deeply that she became emaciated. She built a hermitage beside their graves and lived there for the rest of her life. Her disciples, unable to bear parting from her, followed her footsteps. The hermitage was too small to accommodate everyone, and some even endured wind and dew to stay by her side. Devotees, moved by her teachings, pooled their resources to expand the buildings. From then on, the sounds of chanting and Buddhist hymns echoed day and night without ceasing. Later, knowing her time had come, she sat in meditation and peacefully passed away.
