### 九六、清廣陵某庵尼超一傳（附．涵光傳）

> 96\. Biography of Nun Chao Yi of a Certain Nunnery in Guangling (with appended biography of Han Guang)

超一，廣陵殷氏女。早寡，學道三年，坐化。遺詩偈一卷，有云：「靜中無箇事，反復弄虛空。地老天荒後，魂飛魄喪中。有師開道統，無法度愚蒙。忽底虛空碎，夕陽依舊紅。」又看花云：「土來澆灌水來栽，顛倒工夫任我來。滿院春風花自語，不將顏色向人開。」漁洋山人王士禎為述其事以傳。又言有尼涵光，江西宜黃人，姓鄒氏，歸譚大司馬綸之孫。其夫椎魯不知書，涵光棄去，走京師，上書請南遷，不報。會鼎革，遂為尼。每談胡，明門戶事，源流甚晰。居寶應，山人之友朱秋厓曾見之。惜其道蹟，多不為世所知，實憾事也。

> Chaoyi, a woman of the Yin family from Guangling. She was widowed young and devoted herself to the Way for three years, passing away in seated meditation. She left behind a volume of poetic verses, including this one: "In stillness, with nothing to do, I play with emptiness, over and over. After the earth grows old and the heavens fade, the spirit soars, the soul dissolves. A master opens the path of the tradition, yet no method can enlighten the foolish. Suddenly, emptiness shatters, and the evening sun remains as red as ever." Another poem, "Gazing at Flowers," reads: "Earth to nurture, water to plant—the work of tending, left to my whims. In the courtyard, spring breezes whisper through blossoms, yet they offer no colors for others to behold." Wang Shizhen, the Mountain Hermit of Yuyang, recorded her story to preserve it. He also spoke of a nun named Hanguang, from Yihuang in Jiangxi, born into the Zou family. She was married to the grandson of Grand Marshal Tan Lun, but her husband was dull and unlearned. Hanguang left him, traveled to the capital, and submitted a petition urging the court to move south, but received no response. After the fall of the dynasty, she became a nun. Whenever she spoke of the conflicts and factions of the late Ming, her accounts were clear and detailed. She lived in Baoying, where she was once met by Wang Shizhen's friend Zhu Qiuya. It is a pity that the traces of her path remain largely unknown to the world—a true regret.
