### 九八、清泰州青蓮庵尼德日傳（附．德月傳）

> 98\. Biography of Nun Deri of Qinglian Temple, Qingtai Prefecture (Including Biography of Deyue)

德日，姓蔣，名葵，字冰心，泰州人。生而聰慧，甫識字，即能辨大意。為詩無師承，輒工。後為尼，住青蓮庵，著鏡奩十咏集，與周羽步、吳蕋仙齊名。其妹蔣蕙字玉潔，亦祝髮庵中，名德月。故德日詩，有「夢醒聞雁卻憶女弟」云，「依稀蓮步夢中來。忽聽孤鴻意自哀，爾為失群予憶妹。煩君寄淚到粧臺。」此猶為未遂志以前所作。德月亦能詩，其閨怨云：「十丈深情四遶谿，風光二月六橋西。八千路遠三秋別，百萬愁驚一夜雞。白璧五雙盟尚有，青絲七尺結難齊。半生兩處成孤夢，九折柔腸烏夜啼。」孔東塘國博有初春偶過青蓮庵題壁詩，起句云：「詩才冰玉兩嬋娟，海上相逢入道年。」又有「弟悟兄參」之句，蓋為二蔣作也。

> De Ri, whose family name was Jiang, given name Kui, and courtesy name Bingxin, was a native of Taizhou. She was born intelligent and could grasp the main meaning of texts as soon as she learned to read. She wrote poetry without any formal instruction, yet her work was skillful. Later, she became a nun and resided at the Qinglian Nunnery, where she compiled the collection \*Ten Chants of the Mirror Box\*, gaining renown alongside Zhou Yubu and Wu Ruixian. Her younger sister, Jiang Hui, courtesy name Yujie, also took vows at the nunnery and was known as De Yue. Thus, De Ri’s poetry includes lines such as "Waking from a dream, hearing geese, I recall my younger sister": "Faintly, lotus steps approach in a dream. Suddenly hearing a lone goose, my heart fills with sorrow. You have lost your flock, and I long for my sister. I beg you to carry my tears to her dressing table." This was written before she had fully realized her aspirations. De Yue was also skilled in poetry, as seen in her "Lament of the Boudoir": "Ten fathoms of deep feeling wind around the stream, the scenery of the second month lies west of Six Bridges. Eight thousand li distant, parted for three autumns, a million sorrows startled by the cock's crow at night. Five pairs of white jade pledges still remain, but seven feet of black hair cannot be tied together. Half a life spent in two places, a solitary dream, nine twists of tender heartstrings, crows cry in the night." Kong Dongtang, a scholar of the Imperial Academy, wrote a poem on the wall of Qinglian Nunnery on an early spring day, beginning with: "Two fair maidens with poetic talent like ice and jade, meeting by the sea in the year they entered the Way." It also includes the line "younger sister awakened, elder brother meditating," which was composed for the two Jiang sisters.
