> Ziwu was from Liaodong. Her father, Shang Kexi, achieved repeated military successes, was stationed in Guangzhou, and was enfeoffed as the Prince of Pingnan. The prince had twenty-three sons and seventeen daughters, with Ziwu being the youngest. From birth, she abstained from meat, revered the Buddha, and was unfamiliar with household chores. Witnessing the arrogance and misconduct of her brothers, she grew distressed and fell ill, earnestly pleading to become a nun. Her father could not dissuade her. In the fourth year of the Kangxi reign, she selected ten palace maids as attendants, chose a site south of Yuejinggang in Nanhai, and built the Tandu Nunnery to reside there. She was commonly referred to as Princess Aunt. Ziwu was well-versed in Buddhist scriptures and upheld the precepts with strict discipline. Before the Prince of Pingnan passed away, she did not witness the family's misfortunes. Fan Kunwu, in his "Nanhai Baizong Xubian," recorded her story with a poem: "A string of pearls escapes the fiery pit, Among the ordinary, she stands tall and unyielding. The meditation cushion avoids the calamities of turmoil, Laughing at the drifting fate of Kong Sizhen."
