> Xingche, also known as Jizong, was the daughter of the Liu family in Hengzhou, Huguang. Before her birth, her father dreamed of an old monk asking for a place to stay and agreed to it. Her mother carried her for twelve months, and three times the fetus made sounds in the womb. When she was born, a bright white light filled the room, astonishing everyone. From childhood, she abstained from meat. As she grew older, she enjoyed reading Confucian classics and Buddhist scriptures, deeply contemplating the nature of life and death and growing weary of worldly existence. One day, after reading the \*Southern Mountain Chan Lamp Record\* compiled by Chan Master Luluo Shanci Tongji, she went to meet him and requested guidance. Ji urged her to investigate thoroughly, sparking intense doubt within her. She engaged in rigorous meditation for forty-nine days and nights without rest. Suddenly, she entered a state of profound clarity for three to four hours, where she perceived no distinction between body, mind, or the external world. Upon hearing a sudden clap of thunder, she felt as if breaking free from a net—all barriers and obstructions instantly shattered. She then went to Southern Mountain to seek verification and earnestly requested ordination as a nun. Cutting off all worldly ties, she resided in solitude on a separate peak. After Ji passed away, she observed mourning at his tomb for three years. She then traveled south, visiting ancestral temples extensively. At Zhenjiang Helin, she studied under Muyun Tongmen; at Zhulin, she learned from Ruo’an Tongwen. Later, she visited Wanru at Longchi in Yixing, where their understanding aligned perfectly, and he recognized her as his successor. She later served as abbess at Xinghua Pudu, Suzhou Huideng, Zuili Fuguo, and Danghu Shanhu, among other temples. Her teachings were sharp and responsive, establishing her as a master of her craft. Wherever she went, laypeople—both men and women—gathered around her seat, eagerly seeking her guidance. Her writings were refreshingly clear, and her poetry was acclaimed for its depth and elegance, widely praised in her time. In her later years, she returned to Southern Mountain and resided at Jingpingyan until her passing. Her recorded sayings, compiled in two volumes titled \*The Recorded Sayings of Chan Master Jizong Che\*, were included in the Jiaxing Buddhist Canon.
